My Son was deployed for a year and half in Iraq....When it came down to it all I could really do for him and "His Boys" was send my Intent...which was and remains To See Them Home Safely. And now that My Son is home and thanks to Paul and his work, I now have a place to go and find out how I can help! As a navy vet I would like to thank all of you who have posted comments here and to all of you taking the time to read them. AS a vet I have noticed a lot of you asking how you can help. From me to you here is one way... Start writing letters to the white house and the justice department.. remind them that "I was just following orders" was not a accepted defense from German and Japanese offenders of torture after WWII and unless we prosecute to the fullest extent of the law all who is involved, We the Marines, The naval Personnel, the Air Force personnel, and the Army personnel, will never again be safe from torture once captured. to say we will never do it again without prosecution is to say it's OK when WE do it and this the world will not stand for. I have many friends on the front lines some are special forces their jobs make capture a Real possibility. help protect my brothers and sisters in uniform as we all help protect you. write those letters and e-mails. if we donot want to be tortured then we should not allow anyone who tortures in our good name to ever get away with it. Thank you all.

Saw this on Colbert. Everyone tell your friends to sign on. My experence was returning friends and family from Viet Nam. They needed it then, the new vets need it now, lets do it right this time.

I never thought that The Stephen Colbert Show was really worth watching, but my fiance really enjoys watching it. I admire him so much more since he had this website advertised on his show. My fiancee's best friend is stationed overseas in The United Stations Army. I see how Chris's deployment affects my fiancee and affects his wife and toddler son. If there is anyway I can support vets, then I'm alll for it. Bravo Mr.Colbert!

And the ones who think that drone planes dropping bombs to kill a suspected "insurgent" inflicting dozens or hundreds of "collateral damage" kills is okay. I am an Australian Army Officer who deployed to Afghanistan in 2007. When I returned home I had my own issues but quickly learned that my role as a Platoon Commander had not ceased. I had soldiers with problems and to date have had three of them locked away in padded cells. I have tried to get these guys the support they need and deserve but have had problem after problem. I love the idea of this organisation and only hope that something like this comes about here in Oz....... Keep up the good work.

You guys protect our country and our family's. So u can count on me to do the same for you.

been following Rieckhoff on Rachel's show on msnbc for awhile now. but my registration here can totally be attributed to the Colbert Bump. Thank you Paul, and the rest of the IAVA for all your work. My grandpa just passed away last week. He was a veteran of WWII, Berlin Airlift, and Korean War. I will be honoring his memory by donating to your org every payday.

I think it's great that this kind of serious issue can be presented on the Colbert Report
and we can come and state our support.
I am thankful for the military action and vets all over the world. I appreciate the sacrifices
they make. It is up to us to keep pressure on the government so that they continue to
support the vets when they come home.

Saw the site on the Colbert Report - you guys have my complete support! My father served proudly in the U.S. Army for 23 years, and though I wear civilian clothes, I am always ready to give what I can for our enlisted men and women.

I very much agree with what was mentioned on the show regarding education. The GI Bill is important! I work at a local community college, and I really hope to see some vets taking advantage of the job-preparation community colleges offer!

I haven't joined very many things since joining the Navy 44 years ago and the Democratic party 40 years ago. It is with profound gratitude and deepest respect that I now join this organization dedicated to helping our vets and their families. Your contributions transcend all the posturing and rhetoric on both sides of these ill-advised conflicts. Thanks to all the fine men and women in all the service branches who represent America's best.
