Flagpoles for Vets

Hi, not sure this is the right Forum, although I believe this is the right web site. I hope this doesn't get to long... let me get right to the point. I am an ex Marine, Vietnam era vet. I now make handcrafted traditional wooden flagpoles, only a few people in the USA still can make these. Take a look at a few on my site at http://AdirondackFlagpoles.com if you want.

These are expensive, time consuming to make, a lot of work and craftsmanship. My clients are wealthy, can afford them. I would like to stop selling these flagpoles and give them away. Last year a good friend of mine was dying of cancer, I gave him a really nice 28' Oak flagpole with bronze dedication plaque, he loved it. Wound up winning his battle and surviving, not because of my flagpole of course, but who knows... I felt like what I had done made a difference.

Now I want to do the same thing for our combat vets, I know what it's like to come home and wonder who really cares about what you did for your country. My generation was ignored, accused, belittled, forgotten... not much glory in our war. You guys today deserve better.

My question for this Forum and the members and viewers and vets here, if I establish a foundation to pay the expenses of building these flagpoles and then go through local recruiters for info on returning soldiers who should receive them, well.... is it worth the effort? Can anyone here help find the guys who deserve these flagpoles, would appreciate them, have families that want to remember them and honor them?

I can build the flagpoles, my clients and other organizations will pay for them, we just need to find the men and women who deserve them, and their families if they are not coming home.

You can reply directly to DK@AdirondackFlagpoles.com or post on here, I would prefer the direct email but will check this forum regularly.

Thank you for your help, and to veterans reading these, thank you for what you have done for your country. To me there is no higher honor then to simply be called a Veteran.

being a friend

I am a single mom.Have a brother and lots of friends that were in Nam and other wars. I want u and all the others to know that I am very VERY proud of you an all the others that have served in the Armed Forces..I have heard how hard it is to be in the action. The drinking and drugs to numb the memories. My brother an I were very close before he went to Viet Nam,, When he came back he was totaly different an we drifted apart. Have not seen or heard from him in almost 15 yrs.I still love him but it is for the best I guess. I sometimes help the VFW in different ways. I will disscuss with them about the flag poles. Be safe an God Bless all of you Veterans.. I love you and proud of you all..Sharon
